The historic commercial building at Lönnrotinkatu 5 in central Helsinki was transformed for ten days into a celebration venue for design and architecture when Helsinki Design Week chose Suomitalo as its main event venue for 2025. The late Art Nouveau building designed by Armas Lindgren and Onni Tarjanne provided the perfect setting for the Nordics’ largest design and architecture event.
During the Helsinki Design Week festival, Suomitalo served as a stage for installations, discussions, launches, and evening events. A Kuurna pop-up restaurant was opened on the building’s top floor, and the building housed its own wine bar throughout the festival. Daily design and architecture discussions were organized at Suomitalo, attracting both industry professionals and city residents. Spatial installations for Helsinki Design Week were created by a group of renowned design brands such as Artek, Shimber, and SAAS Instruments. The event demonstrated Suomitalo’s flexibility for various functions and provided service providers with architecturally stunning surroundings to realize their ideas.
MTV3’s morning show “Huomenta Suomi” also visited Suomitalo to explore the event and interview Helsinki Design Week’s Program Director Anni Korkman and the anniversary year’s main exhibition curator Anniina Koivu. You can watch the video below:
The property’s development is now moving toward a new phase with comprehensive renovation planning. The Helsinki Design Week event gave a preview of how the renovated building will combine timeless architecture with contemporary requirements, creating a unique office home.
